   Just an update, I finally got everything to work.   
   ssh came up nicely after stopping and disabling shorewall.service.   
   After adding, the "Tainted release" as a package source the   
   auto update using urpmi test script did not give any errors and   
   I could run a complete update on the cashed rpm's. That was my bad,   
   I should have realized that I need to enable "Tainted release and update".   
      
   I also got nfs server up at first try without changing any config file   
   other than just adding the exported paths and nfs options in /etc/exports.   
   Identical lines as in MD2010 worked in Mageia as well. I use this machine   
   as the file server for my LAN.   
      
   I can also report that my old dvb Tuner pci card "Air2PC" was properly   
   detected in the log files and worked at first try and I could start   
   my recorder apps. I have written some code to handle recording and   
   streaming over LAN using some dvb apps so I'm mostly back to the same   
   functionality I had with the old retired motherboard. It's amazing the   
   speed-up I noticed for many programs thanks to the processor and ddr   
   upgrades.   
      
   I noticed I need to a lot more tweaking of KDE to get the window and   
   shortcut behavior I want but that's not that urgent.   
      
   Thanks a lot for all the help. I also need to get some other   
   usenet server and client to use since Google does not seem to carry the   
   mageia group. I will try with news.eternal-september.org and thunderbird.
