   What are you using-- draknet or networkmanager?   
   drakenet has a "bug" where it will tend to try to connect to the   
   strongest signal, not the one you selected. I have complained about this   
   for years, and gotten no response from mandriva/mageia people.   
   But you can see this happening in the net-applet connection display.

   But you still have not told us WHAT chipset you are using.
