So I installed a few more tools including the updated
LibreOffice, tried out a few things and had no problem except
for the slowness of the emulation. I still have no reason to
be happy about KDE's Plasma 5 but what i care about might not
bother others. I also added Kate but the Plasma 5 iteration
is still lagging behind the completeness of Plasma 4.

I was running Firefox, Kate and LibreOffice Writer,
   writing files and saving them.
There was a single update called something like
   "obsoletetask".
The other day I was offered the chance to try
Wayland at startup and it did not work for me, sadly
enough, but in emulation it does not surprise me.
None of the Live! distributions with Wayland options has
   worked with my notebook.

PCLinuxOS which the Virtual Box is running on got
a goodly amount of updates and it remains rock solid. If
I didn't want to use the Virtual Box on it I might have
shifted over already. I doubt I could have setup the
Virtual Box successfully without the tool supplied on
PCLinux OS which downloaded the latest version and guided me
   through setting parameters.

KDE's Plasma 4 is very nice here and slightly
ahead of the Mageia 5's version. The sad thing is that
as they move to later versions of Plasma the users lose
the ability to customize appearance as much as in the
past. I used to use some nice transparent appearance
'ware on my task panels. KDE decided to change the way that
the panels interface with the system so that those lovely
transparent panels giving the appearance of icons and menus
floating around my close-up of a lovely blossom that I
use for a backdrop cannot presently be done.
Why does KDE need to change so much I have no
notion, they had me with early version in 3.5.9 desktop
manager which we foolishly referred to as KDE. Maybe
because we weren't smart enough to separate the product
from the Producers, they want more respect?
Well they have it from me.

You asked for it. Don't blame me if I get carried
   away and give you TMI.

I have seen similar numbers in the past in Mandriva
days of yore, using PCLinux OS earlier in the decade and
now from Mageia so I am not surprised. I just note it
   as of interest.

With space on drives no longer at a premium as it was
in days gone by I think unless one is limited by work requirement
everything possible should be installed for desktops, I usually
have to add a bunch of stuff to my install. I wanted to get
the Full Monty into my notebook and see if I could shut down
the rigidity of the layout. I would have most of the tools
I want then without needing to download a bunch more.

On the Amiga I used to have to make separate 3.5 inch
floppies that would boot to run the applications that I could
squeeze onto that disk and save my output to another floppy.
Real fun started with the SCSI host card and a 100 Megabyte
hard drive. Now a 750 Gigabyte hard drive and 3 or more OSes
running one way or another, Have to go buy a bigger drive
   for backups.
