        Hi Readers and Typers.   
        I mention this here because the next release of Mageia, Open   
   Mandriva and PCLinux OS will be using KDE Plasma 5.8 supposedly a   
   Long Term Support version. It will take a long term of support   
   to begin to supply the notable deficiencies of the Plasma 5.8.   
      
        Well i frequent Distrowatch and there was   
   neon-useredition-20161004-1607-amd64.iso i.e. the first release of KDE   
   Plasma 5.8.0 LTS. Neon is major suckage of resources.  I could not   
   believe it was as bad as it seems running live so I installed it to my   
   test bed, the Dell E6420.   
      
        It uses the Neon Discover package manager and Kate is not available   
   apparently thru that tool.  It offers at least one other package   
   manager. a Debian native.   I prefer either the usual update   
   tool in MCC or Synaptic as seen in PCLinuxOS.  Discover insists on   
   showing largish icons with descriptions of the available tools in a   
   format with no clear way to return to simple lists.  It is also   
   loaded with Gnome applications, I mean the Discover tool not the   
   Neon release.   
        I could not get Kate.  I could find Kate dependent tools   
   but not Kate.   
        Well it seems that it did not install Libre Office while   
   I was waiting but going to the Neon site they assure us that all   
   important KDE applications will be added asap.   
      
        When I have time I will try out PCLOS 2007.07 with Plasma 5.7   
   to see if the updates to 5.8 come though without blowing the familiar   
   KDE tools away.   And Open Mandriva as well though I do not love it   
   at all.   
        Maybe Mageia 6 will have another preview image out soon...
