   I tried running emerge --depclean, and it came up with amongst others, the   
   gdk-pixbuf package. Since it is no longer in portage, I thought is was   
   quite safge to get rid of it, so I emerge -C'ed it away. Then ran   
   revdep-rebuild, and now my system is consistent?   
      
   I'm glad I cracked it, but sad that I do not understand why?  :-(
