From: a@b.c              Hi,              I've got a problem with tar, it seems it's forgetting every second       command I give it when I try to extract or test something that I've put       on tape.              Creating multiple archives on /dev/nst0 works fine however.              mt -f /dev/nst0 rewind       tar -cvvf /dev/nst0 /data/dir1 > dir1-c.log 2> dir1-c.err       tar -cvvf /dev/nst0 /data/dir2 > dir2-c.log 2> dir2-c.err       tar -cvvf /dev/nst0 /data/dir3 > dir3-c.log 2> dir3-c.err              When I want to test what I've put on tape :              mt -f /dev/nst0 rewind       tar -tvvf /dev/nst0 > dir1-t.log 2> dir1-t.err       tar -tvvf /dev/nst0 > dir2-t.log 2> dir2-t.err       tar -tvvf /dev/nst0 > dir3-t.log 2> dir3-t.err              The logs for dir1 are OK, the ones for dir2 are empty and the ones for       dir3 contain what should have been in dir2. If I test more of them dir4       is empty too and dir5 contains the contents of dir3 and so on.              Using rewind and fsf to get to the right file does the trick however.              Is there perhaps an extra command one must run to position the tape at       the beginning of the next file after testing one because the tape is       positioned at the end of the current file?              Thanks in advance,              Wimmy              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
