   Interesting, that indeed found a few files (which I now fixed) but nothing   
   that had anything to do with GNOME.   
      
   I also played around with the terminal profile settings a bit and noticed   
   that all of them stick (stuff like blinking cursor and menubar on or off),   
   except the charset option. :-(
