   emerge of GCC 4.3.0 failed anyway here.  I stumbled upon this bug:

   Now I must try to build glibc (they say this fixes the bug).   
      
   Anyway, before installing Gentoo I had the impression these things would   
   be easier than with other distros, since Gentoo is source-oriented.  On   
   openSUSE 10.3 I have GCC 4.3.0 working with no problems and I compiled   
   kernel 2.6.24.1 with it also with no problems (-O2 -march=core2) and   
   running stable for weeks now.
