   emerge avidemux qdvdauthor

Start with connecting your VCR to the Hauppauge, start with

(assuming you have built the kernel modules and loaded those, see the
   gentoo wiki, if not)
   cat /dev/video0 > vhs.mpg

When the play-up is finished, just ctrl-c

Use avidemux (or transcode) to cut the video into the right sizes

When you are finished, use qdvdauthor to create your DVD.

not really that difficult... just see to that the file format is ok that
you save from avidemux/transcode, just check the qdvdauthor what format
it likes to have as source.
