Gentoo is a Linux distro, and since Linux is SMP ("multi core/CPU")
capable, so is Gentoo. On a quad core, you can use "-j4" in the Make
flags to compile almost 4 times as fast when emerging.

Dual core with higher clock speed is probably better for games and
applications that aren't multi-threaded. Quad core is better if you
want to run multiple applications that require heavy CPU usage at the
same time. If you value extremely fast emerges, go for quad core. A
world rebuild will never seem too scary again ;)
