   You may have missed to build something into the kernel, so compare the .config   
   for the kernel and see that you have everything you need in the early boot up   
   stages. Some system works really badly with the new tickles kernels.

   I suggest you nick the Kernel, initrd-image and the modules from the kernel   
   included in the LiveCD and boot that one, then build a new kernel based on the   
   /proc/config.gz as I'm pretty sure you have missed something or made a bad   
   choise when you built your original kernel.
