   | Hmmm, the orginal question I saw was:
   |
   | Does anyone know of a distribution that including building a custom
   | monolithic kernel as part of its installation?
   |
   | The answer to this is "Yes". I gave Gentoo as the name of the distribution.

I would not even classify Gentoo as a distribution at all. I don't know what
the best term would be. I guess I could toss out "meta distribution" to be
close. It's more of a framework to build a distribution. And as such, it is
probably the best piece of work out there besides the kernel itself.

But it isn't what I'm looking for in this instance of looking.

I'm looking for an ordinary distribution that builds very little from source,
perhaps only the kernel itself. A distribution specializing in those cases
where a statically linked kernel is appropriate (not everyone understands or
acknowledges such cases, so it may be the case many people exist such cases
to not even exist) would be the search target here. Such a distribution would
HOPEFULLY not just shrug off the kernel configuration to the user doing the
installation, but instead, would provide some combination of intelligence to
the configuration, and an easy user interface for configuration (which might
be a lot easier if intelligent configuration initializes it).

Someone added in the group "alt.os.linux.gentoo". Now I don't know who is
answering from that group, so I need to leave it on so people who have joined
this thread from there can get the response. I will eventually slice it off
now that I see it has been added. Whoever did that should not have done so.
