   Have you selected the VGA text mode in /etc/lilo.conf?   
      
   Try vga=normal (and run lilo). 'vga=ask' lets you try different values,   
   for example 795 for 1280×1024, 24-bit mode. If it works, then edit it to   
   vga=795.
