   disabling DRI in X configuration seems to have made it quite usable,   
   and it makes sense in the context of this hardware that that would   
   be the cause of the problem.  I wouldn't call it "swift", but the   
   truth is that this computer itself could never be accused of being   
   "swift".  It's small and lightweight, and is able to run a modern   
   Slackware installation.  That serves the purposes I have for it.
