   That seems a bit overly complicated.   
      
   I've used a similar, but trimmed down, procedure   
   1) live boot   
   2) mount your host directories under the live boot /mnt directory   
   3) cd /mnt && chroot .   
   4) lilo   
      
   You don't need the bind mounts.
