long term problem with NFS and mbox format, many isps's found it didnt
work well, think multiple front ends (we had a couple dozen at peak)
writing to the same user at once, thats why clustered file systems were
popular with sendmail because the filesystem would only allow one-write-a-
time, that however in itself introduced more complexity and higher
breakage, its why most of us avoid it and went back to ol' faithul NFS,
and maildir moving away from sendmail to postfix gave us all so much
   pluses.

I used to be one of sendmails biggest fan in the 90's and early 2000's,
but when something far better and less complex comes along (because we
all know more complexity = more possible links in teh chain to fail, not
to mention all others who have to manage those servers have to be woith
it all as well), after 6 months I regretted not moving our systems over
to postfix sooner, it was 2008 when I made that move.
