Had problems with 42.1 and finally gave up on       using Plasma at all there. I was blaming the Nvidia HDMI (630) card, and       I find I can't use the card at all for any linux versions.              The card works perfectly in Winders, and as I have a home network, no       real problem, though I'd rather not use Winders at all except to support       others who insist on using it.              So, installed 42.2 on release, no HDMI card, only to find that Plasma       still doesn't work. It freezes, Dolphin eg has no toolbar, and the       networking with Samba doesn't work well either. It allows a login to one       of my networked machines, but when I go to copy a file across, the login       is gonzo.              Suse has been my system of choice since some time in the 90s, but since       42.x, I've found Plasma unreliable, so I stopped using it. I install Mate       on first installation, and everything works just fine.              Thus I get the benefit of being able to use the KDE proggies I need (eg       Kmymoney, Pan, Kwooty, YAST, etc) without having to rely on Plasma. Works       for me.              As others are saying they use eg XFCE as a backup, I remind them that       Mate has more features and does a good job.              So, in summary, 42.x has been a problem for me. There ARE solutions, but       one solution, unfortunately, is to not rely on Plasma AT ALL.              Of course, there ARE other solutions, one being to simply use Ubuntu       Mate, though I find the programs offered there to be not quite what I       look for, and I hate to give up totally on openSUSE, as it's been a       faithful system for me for so long. I CAN however give up on Plasma, as       I've yet to find it reliable.              --       E              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
