   I completely rebuilt the laptop and only copied the application data   
   from my backup server not everything. That appears to have fixed the   
   issue I had screwed something up somewhere in the KDE setup.   
      
   This is not a problem for my desktop machine as it has a permanent   
   network connection ,which is why I thought it was a plasma 5 issue.
