   Currently running openSuse Leap 42.3 having just updated from 42.2   
   KDE Plasma version 5.8.6   
      
   File /etc/sysconfig shows DISPLAYMANAGER = sddm   
      
   System presents me with a blank desktop (1 & 2) and I'm unable to generate   
   shortcuts on the desktop by choosing a menu item, right clicking and   
   selecting `Add to desktop'.   
      
   When I select `Add to panel' that works correctly.   
      
   My original shortcuts all appear in the /~/Desktop folder.   
      
   Right clicking on the desktop achieves no result.
