I have a similar problem with my nVidia 8400 on-board.
I looked at the changelog for kernel 4.12.14-lp151-28.4.1-x86_64 (POS for
short) and the top entry was "Disable nouveau for PCI device 10de:1cbb
(bsc#1133593)", commit 3261dfb by ptesarik on 10 Mai.
So why was this POS level introduced as a security update with no fanfare at
all? My testing of the previous level (4.2.14-lp151-27.3) has been fairly
rudimentary but I have not seen any problems so far, my usage being "office"
   rather than "multimedia"
   or "games".
All indications were that it was not broken until it was fixed - by design.
