   I don't have a clue about your second question, but my response to your first   
   one has to be: try it.   
   If it works, problem solved.  If not: Boot back to the previous good kernel,   
   remove the new one and start looking at ping-of-death mitigation.   
   Oh, and tell us if it fails.
