   Why not created an encrypted filespace/partition using cryptmount on   
   whatever your backup medium is. Mount the encrypted partition onto your   
   system and copy over the stuff you want backed up, and then use crypmount -u   
   to umount it.   
   Now you will have a copy as if it were a file system.   
      
      
   Use cryptmount-setup to set up the storage location and set up a   
   password.   
      
   man cryptmount-setup   
   man cmtab   
   man cryptmount
