   *Workaround*   
      
   It boots ok if I specify "nomodeset".   
      
   The messages which followed   
   fb0: switching to i915 from EFI VGA   
      
   with the *previous* kernel (and without nomodeset) were:   
   Console: switching to colour dummy device 80x25   
   i915 0000:00:02.0: vgaarb: deactivate vga console
