   Thanks, after a lot of thought I decided to check if all those libraries   
   were actually used for anything.   
   I followed your advice and chose door 1 *after* having executed the   
   packman switch.  Repeating the packman switch after door 1 resulted in   
   "nothing to do".   
   One day (and a boot) later I can still play locally-stored videos and   
   online videos without any difficulties, if I run across any problems   
   I'll revisit those libraries but at the moment I have no idea why or how   
   they landed on my system in the first place.   
   This PC dates back to 2018 although I replaced processor and memory in   
   November 2022, it started with whatever Leap level was current in summer   
   2018 and has been living on distribution updates - rather than fresh   
   installs - ever since.
