   We had a similar debate in openSUSE some time ago; what prevailed was to
   have the distribution desktop agnostic, no default. The user choose
   which one will be the default at installation time. The dvd contains
   both gnome and kde, and there are others available at install time by
   using remote repositories, like XFCE.

   However, the commercial SUSE version (SLE) comes with gnome. KDE is
   available through community work (ie, they get KDE from openSUSE).
