   As far as I have seen, Linux does not require any hooks into any Windows,   
   Google, Apple, Mac   
   connections.   
   As you or something in your article said, adding account logins just enhances   
   the experience.  I   
   myself use the google calendar events that show on my Android phone and now   
   show on my Linux calendar.
