   BUT   
   your desktop file works perfectly on Slackware/XFCE   
   shows up in "Otherxclip" category in the menu   
   copies the "text" to clipboard and pastes it to command line when asked   
   also works in LMDE-6/Cinnamon - after installation of xclip   
   have you checked xclip is installed in ubuntu?
