   I don't think he is hardware-rich, and cutting over his desktop,   
   if the desktop does not immediately work on the tether arrangement   
   (over Wifi), then he won't be able to post back until he restored   
   the cable for the original setup.   
      
   The network interfaces on Windows, would use metrics, and some   
   interface has a higher priority than some other interface,   
   and if he leaves the NIC connected and the Wifi enabled, if   
   one of them is not working, the other one should allow him to post   
   at least.   
      
   I've tested the Windows hotspot capability between two   
   Windows desktops (with the downstream desktop disconnected   
   from wired Ethernet), and it all worked OK. Initially,   
   I couldn't figure out where the password was, but after a couple   
   tries I spotted where the password had got to, and once the   
   password was entered in the other machine, it was working.
