Agreed. Linux has AFC & iFuse which makes working with iOS acceptable.

You are still limited compared to how every other operating system works.
But it's the best there is for USB bidirectional file transfer with iOS.

For those who don't know what we're discussing, in summary, iFuse is a FUSE
(Filesystem in Userspace) module for Linux that allows you to mount the
file system of an iOS device, enabling you to access its files as if they
   were on a regular drive.

AFC (Apple File Conduit) is the protocol used by Apple devices to
communicate with computers for file transfer and other data exchange, and
it is the underlying communication method that tools like iFuse utilize on
Linux to interact with iOS devices.

If Windows had iFuse, it wouldn't have most of these problems with iOS.

Sigh. Understood. It's shocking the observation that Apple doesn't
"support" Linux, and by NOT SUPPORTING Linux, we end up with the best USB
bidirectional file transfer of all common consumer operating systems.

In an ironic way, that says a lot about what Apple does to
interoperability, as it means the less they touch it, the better.

Note: Around version 7 or so (as I recall), Apple *broke* something in the
USB bidirectional file transfer, but since Linux could recover without
Apple breaking it again, it only caused a hiccup for everyone for months.

We could look up what that was but it has been working well ever since.
Simply because Apple doesn't touch Linux.

A case in point about how Apple purposefully *breaks* interoperability is
when you connect an iPod to Windows, it works perfectly with the old
SharePod but WITHOUT the iTunes bloatware abomination installed.

Ask me how I know this:
     itunes breaks everything

But, the instant you install iTunes, you *lose* all portability!
   Fancy that.

Worse, Apple literally *bought* SharePod and then made it work *only*
inside of iTunes, which means you have to have the last known good version.

Poignantly, that last known good version of SharePod still works!

   Apple murdered interoperability.
