When you use TCP/IP you *always* hear something "back".

*When you successfully connected to the other puter* and you send a block of
data you either get a message from the other side that it received the data
block OK and you can send the next one, or a status from the your 'puters
TCP/IP driver that, *after it has automatically re-tried several times*,
something is wrong with the connection.

   (notice the bolded parts)

So, when the down/upload fails and with me knowing that TCP/IP has already
done its damn best to send/receive the data, I give it plenty of time, as
something serious seems to be going wrong. When I'm eager to have the
data sometimes just an hour, but at other times a day or even more. Its a
bit of a "do I feel lucky" kind of situation.
