Did you miss by one key, Paul, meaning to type "WIFI" instead?? ;-P       >              It is referred to as WiDi in some articles on Miracast.       The short form is not mentioned here at all.              https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wi-Fi_Direct              As far as I know, WiDi is limited to 51Mbit/sec operation,       but I don't have proof of that. I was able to run Miracast       over it.              When run as a Hotspot, that gives file sharing via point       to point Wifi, without any router in the picture. The       Hotspot has an SSID.              You can also extend the network by using a Bluetooth to Bluetooth       connection. That's a relatively recent option enabled in       Windows, as it was low on their list of things to write       for the Bluetooth stack.              The various platforms should all run versions of this.              One thing that was removed from the standards, was a scheme       where you could have a Bluetooth to Bluetooth connection, and       if Wifi adapters were present, a file transfer could       be "augmented" with Wifi transfer. The Wifi was point to point       for that. But because that didn't involve the OS enough       (OS felt left out), they removed that and WiDi is the closest       equivalent of it. Making it so it only works by clicking       a Hotspot button, puts the OS back in control (verification       digits on screen, user presses Yes on each machine and so on).       The OS also puts a random password up on the screen, and you       have to write that down (if you happen to notice it). The       first time, I couldn't figure out where the password went :-)       Just a bit annoying is all I can say. But the OS was in control.               Paul              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
