   Select Run (lower left corner of desktop)   
      select settings   
        select control panel   
          select system   
            select Device Manager   
              There should be a modem device displayed.  Yours   
      
                 should be a branch of that device.  Select it,   
                 and then press properties.  The display will   
                 tell you if the modem is working properly.
