   Hi Jason,

You can find the version of W95 he is running under System, or right mouse My
   Computer,
Properties. I suspect it is running a 16 bit OS and you would need to do a
   pretty good bit
to not have trouble every time you load 32 bit programs. You can find 16 bit
   freeware and
shareware utilities to help with it, but it is just as easy to Format and get
   him a clean
   install.

You need to write down the hardware running, use another machine and go get
   the most
up-to-date drivers you can find for it. You also want to go to the HDD
   manufacturer and see
what upgrade for the MoBo, and look for an up dated BIOS. They all should be
   no larger than
a floppy. Oh, make sure you have freshly formatted floppies, with NO bad
   sectors. Just look
at each one when the get through for the report.

For ease of the entire matter, you can get a W95 boot disk or w98 for that
   matter and boot
to a WS-DOS prompt and type FDISK to set any partitions or remove any
   trash
partitions there, although I suspect it may have like a 560 meg HDD. Be good
   to blow all the
cob webs and ghost tards out of, but be careful with the cables, so one
   doesn't cause
problems from being loose. It's happened to me before. I also suggest a BASIC
   partition for
all of it. After you finish, power down. Boot w/boot diskette again and type
   FORMAT u/c/s/
and that will look for fixing bad sectors, etc. After you get through,
   put your
Installation CD in the tray, and power down. Boot with the floppy, and at the
   DOS Prompt
type D: , SETUP.EXE and follow the prompts.

   good luck,
   don

   Hi,

A friend has asked me to look at his flakey Win 95 box, which I strongly
suspect is riddle with spyware & possibly viruses (viri). I installed a
copy of Lavasoft's Ad-aware on his machine but when I ran it Windows
complained about WS2_32.DLL being missing. I downloaded a zipped version of
this from the net but when I extracted it (with winzip) I could only find a
html doc in the chosen directory, no DLL? Frustrated I gave up & downloaded
the file on my XP box, extracted it and eventually copied it to his system
folder. After running Ad-aware again his box then complained about missing
WS2_HELP.DLL (or something very similar, I can't find the piece of paper I
wrote it down on). I think a virus &/or spyware has altered his machine
   which is causing many problems.

Does anyone know a way to fix this PC, as I can't seem to extract zipped
DLLs on his box I can't keep driving to his house to find out which DLL it
needs next only to have to go home, download it on my PC & return - there
   could be 20+ files missing!

I don't mind if someone has come accorss this problem before & supplies a
list of possible DLLs that are missing, I can download them all and take
them round on a disc. Alternatively maybe there is an app that I can
download that can scan which files are missing? He does have the original
Win 95 disc if that helps, any advice greatly appreciated. I've also tried
Spybot & I get the same results.

   Thanks, Jason.
