   Are you sure it's the software?  I was working on a Win98 box a while back   
   that gave me and some friends endless frustration.  And it showed the same   
   sort of symptom your friend's got with that - *.dll missing, etc, ad   
   nauseam.   
      
   Turned out it was some hardware slowly dying on us.  That could be the   
   problem with your friend - try it out.
