   Adios linux seems very friendly also. It recognized a 3com modem when   
   the others didn't, it's another red hat linux.   
      
   I do believe though you will still need a 'real' modem with linux for   
   internet, not a chipset modem, known as a winmodem that comes with   
   most computers.   
      
   Another is having enough ram. Makes it as fast as windows or at least   
   very close.
