   There are three ways to silence the modem in Windows 95.   
      
   Preferred, since it should apply to all programs that use the modem:   
   Start, Settings, Control Panel, Modems, select your modem, click Properties   
   and move the lever under 'Speaker Volume' all the way left.   
      
   Only applies to the particular connection:   
   My Computer, Dial-up Networking, your connectiod, Configure, add m0 (lower   
   case m and a zero) to 'Extra Settings' under 'Advanced connection Settings'.
