Boot to DOS command line (hold CTRL or F8 key during boot and select
the command line option) then follow along>>

System.dat and User.dat are your two registry files in C:\Windows
   folder.
System.da0 and User.da0 are your backup registry files.
Your two .DAT files are usually "hidden" and you'll either have to
   show
   hidden files
or exit to DOS and run the attrib command:

   attrib -r -h -s c:\windows\system.dat
   attrib -r -h -s c:\windows\user.dat

Copy the system.dat and user.dat to another name using the 3 initials
   of
   your name.
Exa: John Robert Doe would do:

Copy C:\Windows\System.dat System.JRD (keep in mind, these are the
   originals.)
   Copy C:\Windows\User.dat User.JRD

   Then rename: System.da0 to System.dat and User.da0 to User.dat
Shutdown and see if that works. If it fails, you should put
everything back to the way it was - rename the two files. Then if you
   can try reinstalling Win95

It's a bit messy but may save your day.
