   Kay --

I've tried every conceivable suggestion until I finally came upon the answer
to my problem. For anyone else who needs it, here it is:

   1. Place pesky hard drive on concrete.

   2. With hammer, hit it sharply five times.

   3. Turn it over and repeat.

   4. Throw the damn thing into the garbage.

My only conclusion is that I must be dealing with a defective hard drive.
   Thanks for your help.
