probably had an epic bad hair day to prompt her sister Thalia in mockingly
inspiring "Jonathan Rothwell" to write in
   his/her epistle thus:

Yes, last one, but do BACKUP the registry-keys you are about to change
   FIRST!

   I mean REALLY!

   Then check out HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Config\0001\Display\Settings (or
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Config\0000\Display\Settings or '0002' -- whatever path
works in your config) and fill in your "preferred" settings. Keys like
BitsperPixel, RefreshRate and Resolution are pretty self-explanatory. But be
very careful, change one setting at the time, reboot and see if the result
is working. Load some apps that can do some heavy pixel rendering, like a
   DIRECTX diagnose (default location C:\Program
Files\directx\setup\Dxdiag.exe) or a game under Windows. And do not blame me
if things go totally FUBAR on your system.
