|    Windows 95 and > 8GB hard disk --> hangs    |

      From: andreas.thalhammerDELETE_CAPITAL_LETTERS@chello.at              Hello!              I have a problem. I bought a new hard disk for my old laptop. It used to       have 2 GB hard disk space, Windows 95 worked well. Now, when I put in the       new hard disk (20 GB) and boot from the Windows 95 boot disk it works fine       until the first reboot after FDISK.              With FDISK I created a big primary partition of 2 GB where I wanted to       install Windows 95. But now, when I reboot, DOS doesn't want to start at       all.              I have an other tool which destroys the partition table again so that the       hard disk is totally empty.              THEN the Windows 95 boot disk (= DOS) starts as usual. But Windows Setup       tells me to create a partition and format it.              WHICH AGAIN leeds to FDISK, where I create a partition of 2 GB and save       it, than -off course- I have to reboot AND STUCK AGAIN...              Normally I get the message "Windows wird gestartet..." which is german for       "Windows is starting...". But after I partitioned the hard disk I don't       get that message. The disk loads a few tracks (I can hear the *tick* from       the floppy drive moving the drive's head), then it accesses the hard disk       (I can see the led flashing) and then here I am. The floppy won't stop       spinning, and the computer freezes forever.                     HOW can I get out of this dillemma? Any ideas?              I know that the BIOS of my laptop is old and that it only recognizes 8 GB       of the 20 GB, but at least I want to be able to use the 8 GB.                     Waiting desperately for any help, that YOU can give me.                     Andreas from Austria/Europe.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
