   >(or whatever else) drivers for free...... (one is drivers.com)
   >have you tried any of these?

   I wouldn't try something like that. I don't think it's a good idea to trust a
   site that
   wants to scan your computer.

   >
   >2. have you tried unplugging the monitor for a while? (likely no help)

No but I had the power off for long periods of time.

   >3. try degaussing it

Yes. No change. That was weird. :-)

   >*4. when you start the pc, do you have the BRIGHT blue dell splash screen?
   >if so, is the blue bright?

It's there. It's hard to say if it's bright. I'm not sure if lack of
   brightness is the
problem. I have the brightness down to around 12% to try to get more color out
   of it.
Some of the individual colors look okay. Blue, red and yellow all seem to be
   alright but
when I look at pictures of people the skin tones are very dull looking. I
   think I'm
getting too much yellow and not enough red and blue. No amount of adjusting
   the brightness
and contrast will fix it. With the brightness and contrast at 50% or more the
   colors are
washed out. Lowering the settings makes everything dull. Colors are still pale
   but less
   bright.

   >(or any of the colors if there are other colors?)
   >also the windows splash (w/ the clouds) prior to it loading everything (is
   the color normal?)

   >5. is there a user's manual with the monitor?

No. There's some info at the Hewlet Packard site.

   >(shut off and replug everything...)
   >7. have you asked the retailer?

No. I'm fairly certain they'd be no help.

   >8. the only question that that might diagnose the monitor or a driver issue
   (i think) is the
   >one about the dell splash (you could also enter the setup ('del' key) and see
   if the colors
   >there are washed out (although they are fairly faint))
   >9. have you made SURE that plug 'n play is set up for the monitor (device
   mnger)
