Hotel LAN turns off Windows XP firewall?

   I was using a hotel LAN connection with my laptop over four days.   
   Twice on rebooting my laptop I got a Windows XP warning that the   
   Windows firewall had been turned off.   
      
   Is this possible by malicious access on a LAN?
