Select one type of file you want to be associated with Windows Media player
(e.g.*.mp3) with shift button pressed. It will give you an option to open
   the program with,
   choose select program.
It will give you list of all the programs registered. Select Windows Media
player and donot forget to tick
Always use the selected program to open this kind of file.
   Click OK
Now Windows Media player is the default player for mp3.
Repeat the procedure to make other file types also(like mpeg,Midi,Au etc)
