XPost: alt.os.windows-xp, alt.windows-xp       From: william@procomsys.com              I am trying to install some new software on a Windows XP Pro machine.       The insatll fails with the message "Can't write into c:\Program       Files\Common Files\installsheild\engine\win32." (not the exact path, but       close). On investigation, sure enogh the whole "c:\Program Files\.."       Structure is set to "Write Only". Click the box, to clear it, apply the       change, select "apply to all sub-folders and files" and allow it to       change all files and folders. However, when the changes finish, checking       the Permissions on the "Program Files' folder, and it is still Read       Only. I have an administrator account on the machine, but I am not the       person who did the original install of the OS or software. (that person       is no longer available to us). AS far as I can determine, there are is       no unusual software on the machine. It does have MS Office, MS Visual       Studio, Open Office, Firefox, and Thunderbird installed, all obtained       from reliable and legal sources.              Anyone seen something like this and have any suggestions for a fix.              TIA               Posted Via Usenet.com Premium Usenet Newsgroup Services       ----------------------------------------------------------        ** SPEED ** RETENTION ** COMPLETION ** ANONYMITY **       ----------------------------------------------------------        http://www.usenet.com              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
