   Just transferred XP from an old HD to an new one using DriveImage XML   
   it's freeware and does the job perfectly in my case anyway. Used the   
   copy (or was it clone) disk to disk feature. I am a virtual novice so   
   obviously it is an easy program to manage.   
      
   I partitioned and formatted using the computer management console   
   within XP. MUCH easier than the old F disk command. Likewise all   
   proceded with no hassles at all. New drive booted immediately.

   The full command is: mmc compmgmt.msc   
   or simply (if PATH is correct): compmgmt.msc
