Hi,              I'm trying to help a friend get a "scheduled task" to run       on XP. I've done it before for myself but for some reason       I'm starting to bomb with this particular effort and it's       beginning to become embare-assing.              The objective is to run on boot a small .bat file turned       into a .com which (would) discretely log the boot event       by swapping two otherwise useless files on a data partition       (no effect on XP or its ops but the executable cron would       reside in XP root for simplicity ..or wherever).              When I did it for myself there was some difficulty and       I can't remember how I got XP to take it under SYSTEM       authority and without a password but it did and it has       been working ever since.              This time I'm again dealing with a fix1 edition of XP but       on a laptop and I've tried every which way but even when it       seems to have gone in ok it never actually executes. Has       this prob been addressed by any of the other two fixes or       can someone point me to a bulletproof step-by step tutorial?       As I said I've tried just about everything I can think of       except direct (dos?) command as outlined by MS which I have       no resources to do (and still don't know if that would work       any better).              Gimme what works and I'll have the bartender say a mass       for you.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
