XPost: alt.os.windows-xp       From: lupine@pack.c0m              I'm running Win XP Pro on and AMD 64 Dual Core system. I've no issues       until today. I went ahead and installed the MS WinXP critical       updates. Did a reboot, and now, I have a constant hourglass next to       my cursor, and Task Manager puts CPU usage somewhere between 55% and       68% constantly - even when only background apps like AV, firewalls,       etc. are running. I'm used to seeing 3% at the most when there's no       apps running.              Any idea what the problem is? I even did a system restore, and end up       with the same thing.              And...              I found out that what's trying to load is mom.exe - an ATI app. I       haven't done enough research yet to find out what this is about, but       what I've read is a bit disturbing:              "ATI Driver 7.2 adds MOM.exe - 03-01-2007, 09:56              I contacted ATI/AMD about new ATI CATALYST 7.2 and told them mom.exe       loads with software( This was a known Key Logger or tracking Virus). I       scanned it with a few different Anti-Virus and a couple Spyware       programs and nothing popped up. I hit it with Rootkit reveal also.       Nothing on MOM.exe. I got a response from ATI telling me to revert       back to 7.1 till they can figure it out. This is a liitle alarming. I       thought people may want to know. I asked them to pull it! This was       official response from ATI.              "Regarding the error 'mom.implementation' and 'CCC.implementation':              At the moment we are investigating the issue, Please revert back to       Catalyst 7.1.              We will have a fix shortly" Notice they call it error!"              This is beginning to bug the hell out of me...              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
