   HP usually has a hidden partition that contains an image of the machine "as   
   built". At boot time, I believe it's Ctrl-F12 to start the recovery. The   
   recovery reformats the disk.   
      
   You can contact HP and get them to send you a Recovery CD for a nominal   
   price (~$10).
