   Start -> Run -> sndvol32. Look for "Microphone"; mute that and check. If you   
   still get microphone echoes in the speaker, look for "Line In"; mute *that*   
   and check. (Muting is immediate; there's no OK button.)   
      
   If you don't see one of those, Options -> Properties. Select the correct   
   sound card (if you have more than one), then Adjust volume for -> Playback.   
   In the scrollbox, check "Microphone" and/or "Line In". OK, then try the above   
   instructions.
