   Yes. All you're doing is preventing the microphone from echoing to the   
   speaker; recording will still work normally. (To mute the microphone so   
   that it's silent when recording, you'd have to choose Adjust volume for ->   
   Recording in the Options.)

   What you described is perfectly normal. I have my radio plugged into Line   
   In, and keep Line In unmuted so that I can listen to the radio through my   
   (vastly superior) PC speakers, rather than my radio's cheap speakers -- but   
   even if I had playback from Line In muted, I could still record if I so   
   desired. (I don't, usually, but I *could*.)
